Al-Mahatta

Mini-Series

Embarking on an intriguing sonic journey, we present the captivating “Al-Mahatta” podcast mini-series, a poetic exploration nestled within the larger “Masafat” podcast show. Translated as “The Station” in Arabic, “Al-Mahatta” beckons listeners to join us on an enchanting expedition that unfolds across the multifaceted landscapes of musical heritage, embracing five distinct societies across five episodes.

Each episode acts as a sonic gateway, transporting listeners to the heart of a specific country’s musical legacy. As we delve into the narratives of Palestine, Lebanon, Algeria, Sudan, and Iraq, the podcast unveils the hidden stories behind melodies that have been passed down through generations, each carrying its unique cultural and historical resonance.

Lettering & Identity

At the crossroads of history and melody, the visual identity of “Al-Mahatta” embraces the essence of the past while inviting us to explore the unknown. The Arabic lettering in the title is a masterpiece in itself, designed with meticulous care to evoke a sense of timeless elegance while paying homage to the rich cultural heritage that the podcast seeks to uncover.

The branding elements, influenced by film noir aesthetics and the concept of hauntology, mirror the evocative nature of the mini-series. Like a glimpse into a fading memory, the branding captures the tension between the beauty of the past and the inexorable march of time. This visual language perfectly complements the immersive power of the audio content, creating an atmospheric synergy that engages all senses.

Impact

As the mini-series delves into the heart of its central question — the connection between music, earth, society, and humanity — the branding resonates with the ethos of exploration and discovery. Just as the podcast exposes hidden narratives, the branding subtly uncovers layers of meaning, inviting listeners to contemplate the intricate ties that bind us to our musical roots.

As I present this project in my portfolio, I am reminded of the interplay between design and content, between visual aesthetics and auditory immersion. The Arabic lettering in the title and the branding are more than visual elements; they are conduits that transport us to a world of nostalgia and wonder, ultimately reflecting the essence of “Al-Mahatta” — an exploration of sound and memory that bridges past, present, and future.
